Holy Avtar Vani - Shabad No. 83
Muhon saban saban kehnda kaprha ik vi dhonda nahin;
Lakhan saal hanera dhoyan kade channa Honda nahin.
Nuskha parhiye bar bar je rog kade nahin hat sakda;
Sona sona keh ke koi kaudi ik nahin khat sakda.
Roti roti keh ke mitdi kadi kise di bhukh nahin;
Sukh diyan gallan batan karke door hunda koi dukh nahin.
Manzal te kharh manzal manzal manzal ton anjan kare;
Chhin vich pujdai manzal te jo manzal di pehchan kare.
Rasta nahin pehchan bina milne da sarvvyapi nun;
Ey per isnun janan wala taar vi sakdai papi nun.
Rab Milane de sadhan dasse jo pehchan karanda nahin;
Oh sadhu ya sant nahin koi us ton mukti panda nahin.
Jo partakkh dikhawe rab nun oho murshad poora ey;
Kahe avtar guru pure bin jo takya so ura ey.
Meaning
By mere utterance of the word ‘soap’, not a single cloth can be washed. By trying to throw out the darkness for lakhs of years, light cannot ever appear. By only reading the prescription repeatedly, a disease cannot be cured. By repeatedly shouting over the word ‘gold’, one cannot earn even a single penny. By repeated utterances of the word ‘bread’, no one can satisfy the hunger. By mere talk of happiness, no suffering can be removed. Even on reaching the destination, only the ignorant seeks and cries for destination. One reaches the destination in a moment, if he recognizes it. Likewise, there is no other way to meet the Omnipresent One, except receiving HIS knowledge. The one, who knows God, can even redeem a sinner. The one who merely tells the methods and rituals of realizing God, and does not reveal Him is not a true saint and cannot deliver salvation. A True Master is the One, who reveals God to you overtly, in an instance. Avtar says, without the knowledge of the True Master, everything seen in this world is imperfect and incomplete.
